Surf's Up for Philippoussis?

Australian tennis player, Mark Philippoussis, has injured his knee AGAIN while playing in a wildcard playoff for the 2008 Australian Open. Mark plans to undergo surgery in January and will be unable to compete in the 2008 Australian Open. It seems likely that Philippoussis may call it a career after this latest injury, but he has not yet officially retired. Philippoussis achieved a lot during his injury-plagued career including winning 11 titles, playing
on two winning Australian Davis Cup teams (1999 and 2003), as well as reaching two Grand Slam finals, i.e. Wimbledon and the U.S. Open. Philippoussis earned almost $7 million on the tennis court and a fair amount in off-court endorsements and fame as well. Nonetheless, tennis fans who followed Mark’s career may feel he was so close to achieving much more, e.g. a Grand Slam title. Philippoussis is the not the only player with tremendous talent, as well as an exciting game and charismatic personality who never completely fulfilled his potential. Sometimes injuries interfere, sometimes off-court distractions prevent a player from achieving his or her potential and sometimes all the talent in the world doesn’t compensate for a lack of hard work, dedication and often a little luck along the way...
