Aussie Open for Kids

Australian Open Tennis Garden

Tennis Australia has announced that kids 12 and under will be allowed free entrance into Melbourne Park on January 26th for the Australian Open when they accompany a paying adult.  This promotion is an excellent way to introduce kids to tennis and encourage them to pursue the sport.  At the end of the Australian Open, there are not a lot of tennis matches, but kids still have the chance to soak up the atmosphere of the “happy slam.”  There will be several courts on which kids can find out their serve speed, hit some tennis balls, etc.  The women’s finals will also be in Rod Laver

Arena and kids can watch all the action on the big screen TV in the Garden area.  As a  result of visiting the tournament, one hopes that next year they may be pushing their parents to buy tickets for the tournament.  Anything that promotes the sport of tennis to the next generation of tennis players is a positive move and one which other tournaments could follow.
