Bernard Tomic - Australia Rises Again

The heritage and tradition of Australian tennis greats has a new hope on the horizon… Bernard Tomic is a very talented young Australian tennis player who is now carrying the weight of Australian tennis expectations. The fifteen-year-old Tomic has now won the 12, 14 and 16 and under titles at the prestigious Orange Bowl junior tournament. Although Tomic was supposedly offered a wildcard into the 2008 Australian Open
main draw, he has elected to continue to focus on his junior career for now and will play in the qualifying instead. However, there is definitely room for the next Australian tennis hero. Mark Philippoussis is struggling to return from yet another knee surgery and possibly nearing the end of his career, while Lleyton Hewitt will endeavor to regain his top form from past years and seriously contend again for Grand Slam titles. Bernard Tomic definitely has the talent and tennis game to be a very successful tennis player, but the road in front of him is a long and potentially arduous one. Clearly, Tomic’s camp is hoping to avoid the pitfalls of past junior phenoms who have struggled in the pro ranks. Nonetheless, there is no magic formula for success on the pro tennis Tour. At age fifteen, it is probably a smart move for the very thin Tomic to strengthen his body and game a bit more before competing with the very best in men’s tennis.
