Mauresmo's Mountain to Climb...

Amelie Mauresmo returned to the Tour in early January during the Australian Open warm-up tournaments. After an extended break last summer and a brief, but tough fall tournament swing, Mauresmo had clearly hoped to start the season well. Unfortunately, her disappointing loss at the Australian Open to Casey Dellacqua featured numerous unforced errors and double faults, especially at critical moments. Clearly, Amelie’s confidence
is very low, but it’s a catch 22 because she needs to play and win more matches before she can find her “mojo” again. As we’ve seen with other top female players who have struggled with some disappointing play and serving the past couple years, it is possible to work through it. Nonetheless, it’s much better to find that path sooner rather than later because the more losses that mount up, the less aura a player has in the locker-room. At the same time, a player can’t regain her confidence without wins. Given the players at the top of women’s tennis, Mauresmo still has the game, when it's working well, to win another Grand Slam. However, the clock is starting to tick a bit louder after her recent Australian summer swing…
