Tennis Champions are World "Sportsmen"...

Roger Federer won the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award for the fourth consecutive year and he was joined by Justine Henin this year who won the award as World Sportswoman of the Year. What’s impressive about the two Number One ranked tennis players winning this award is their competition for the honor. Tennis is clearly one of the premier global professional sports. Nonetheless, it’s a true achievement that
Federer beat out golfer, Tiger Woods, soccer star, Kaka, swimmer, Michael Phelps, as well as an American sprinter and Finish race car champion to win the award. Justine Henin also beat out golfer, Lorena Ochoa, as well as a champion swimmer, soccer star, heptathlete and pole vaulter. In addition, Dutchwoman, Esther Vergeer, the greatest wheelchair tennis star of all-time, won the Laureus Disability Award for the second time. Given the unofficial rivalry between professional tennis and golf, as well as the personal rivalry between Tiger Woods and Roger Federer, this was definitely a “big win” for professional tennis!
