Davenport's Dance Continues...

Lindsay Davenport continued her impressive comeback after taking almost a year off to have a baby, Jagger, in June, 2007. Davenport won her fourth title in Memphis last week adding to the titles she won in Bali, Quebec City and Auckland. All four of Davenport’s titles have come at lower Tier events on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour. In the past, Davenport won many Tier I tournaments, but she’s chosen to work herself back into
form by playing mostly lower-Tier tournaments although she did compete in the 2008 Australian Open where she lost in the second round to eventual champion, Maria Sharapova. By playing in smaller tournaments, Davenport has not had to face the top players in early rounds and therefore had more opportunities to win matches and gain back her confidence and improve conditioning faster. With her title in Memphis, Lindsay has passed Monica Seles on the all-time title list and is now tied with Virginia Wade in seventh place. Davenport has been selective in her choice of tournaments and it’s been a smart strategic career move.
