Davis Cup Will "Count"

Tennis Match

Starting in 2009, the ATP Tour will award ranking points for all “live” Davis Cup matches.  As the ATP and ITF continue to work for ways to encourage more of the top players to consistently compete in Davis Cup ties, it makes sense for those matches to count towards the rankings.  In a sense, “dead rubbers” should count as well since tennis fans will have paid good money to watch those matches on the third day not knowing in

advance whether the tie will have already been decided on the second day.  Regardless, given the frequent tussles between the ATP and ITF, it’s nice to see a compromise that seems to make sense for all sides including the players!
