Evert and Navratilova, An Epic Rivalry and Friendship

All tennis fans are familiar with the incredible on-court rivalry between tennis legends, Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova. What may be even more remarkable in many ways, and is not well-known, is the friendship that developed and has endured between the two champions. Tennis is a rare sport where the individual competitors see each other right before and after a big match when they change in the same locker-room. Today, in an interview with both Evert and Navratilova on Oprah Winfrey's TV show in the United States, Chris

and Martina discussed how they used to comfort each other in the locker-room after matches with the winner offering the loser a hug or some consoling words. Clearly, tennis champions such as Evert and Navratilova are competitive people who played against each other in numerous epic Grand Slam matches. Nonetheless, they have managed to maintain a special friendship, even now, decades after their last match. That is a rare relationship in professional sports...
