Tennis Should Be Green

Tree

Earth Day 2008 offers an opportunity to reflect on the role that tennis (and sports) can play in improving the environment. As one of the leading international professional (and amateur) sports, tennis is played by, and watched by, people all over the world.  Although tennis can be played indoors, it is primarily an outdoor sport played in the sunshine.  There are serious issues affecting the environment which directly impact tennis

players such as poor air quality, holes in the ozone layer affecting the sun’s strength, etc.  Professional tennis is in a position to have a major impact on these global challenges.  By coming together, players, tournaments, manufacturers, sponsors and fans can create environmental change which will impact generations to come in the future.  But the time to act is now…  It’s our serve…  Let’s make tennis “green”!
