Sharapova Grows Up

Maria Sharapova recently celebrated her 21st birthday, a milestone in many people's lives. In the her first few years on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, Sharapova has already won 19 tournaments including three Grand Slam titles (i.e. Wimbledon, U.S. Open and Australian Open). Sharapova has also won titles on grass, hard, clay and
indoors. Sharapova has already amassed a fortune on the tennis court (almost $12 million so far) and millions more annually through off-court endorsements yet she continues to work hard on her tennis game and improve. As a sign of her growing maturity and independence, Sharapova has also started to travel without her father in the past year. As a very high-profile international tennis celebrity, Sharapova deals with the limelight every day. So far, Maria has managed to balance her off-court responsibilities and fun with her on-court career. In a sense, Sharapova is "middle-aged" for a tennis pro since she started competing so successfully in her teenage years. Maria has already accomplished a career's worth of trophies and accolades. Therefore, the next several years will be telling in terms of Sharapova's ultimate place in tennis history.
