Tennis Map

Tennis Map

A quick glance at the results from the Europe/Africa zonal Federation Cup matches this week illustrates the global breadth of professional tennis.  There were players from Mauritius competing against women from Iceland while Egyptian women played against tennis players from Moldova and the Armenian team played against the Moroccan women.  There were also matches between players from countries that have (or had)

players on the ATP and Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, e.g. Finland and Zimbabwe.  This is only the Europe/Africa Zone matches and therefore there are even more players from lesser-known countries (at least from a tennis perspective) on other continents.  With the recent emergence of so many talented players from a small country such as Serbia, e.g. Novak Djokovic, Ana Ivanovic, Jelena Jankovic, one is reminded that the future Grand Slam champions could come from some country that heretofore isn’t really on the “tennis map!”
