Evonne Goolagong, Yannick Noah, Gabriela Sabatini are some of the tennis pros who were loved and admired by tennis fans all over the world while they competed... Whenever tennis fans see these players nowadays, e.g. Goolagong at the Australian Open, Yannick Noah at the French Open or Sabatini at the trophy presentation during the recent Italian Open, it is a reminder of how few players have engendered such a warm feeling
among tennis fans. It is a combination of their style of play, as well as their personality, honesty and also good looks! Goolagong played tennis with such artistry and grace. Noah's game was flashy and exciting to watch combining power, athleticism and touch. Sabatini's flowing ground strokes, deft touch, athletic volleys and graceful long legs gliding around the court are etched in many tennis fans' minds. What separates these players from the many others who also had legions of tennis admirers throughout their careers was that these players never had controversy during their careers. They were universally loved... that is rare and we still miss their dazzling tennis and their warm smiles. The current crop of tennis stars produce terrific tennis and have legions of fans around the world, but none is yet quite as beloved as Goolagong, Noah and Sabatini.
