Federer's Fifteen (Semi)-Finals

Roger Federer has entered the 2008 French Open aiming to win his first title at Roland Garros. There are a few players in the draw including Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, as well as his next opponent, the talented Croat, Mario Ancic, who hope to defeat Federer before he reaches the winner’s circle. However, one of Federer’s most amazing records, and one which will probably last a very long time, is the fact that Roger
has already reached 15 consecutive Grand Slam semi-finals, i.e., French Open, Wimbledon, U.S. Open, Australian Open. Given the depth in professional tennis, that is a truly astonishing record. The next player on “the list” is Ivan Lendl who reached 8 consecutive Grand Slam semis. Clearly, there are many tennis legends who possess other impressive records. However, Federer’s fifteen straight semis is yet another illustration of not only Federer’s consistency the past few years, but also his success on all surfaces, i.e. clay, grass and hard courts. This record demonstrates Federer’s versatility as a tennis player, which is what differentiates Federer from many others on the "all-time great list."
