Safina and Safin Maintain Family Tennis Tradition

Dinara Safina

Russian U.S. Open and Australian Open champion, Marat Safin, was playing and winning in the qualies at Hamburg while baby sis, Dinara Safina, was having a career week in Berlin.  Dinara beat Justine Henin and Serena Williams en route to the German Open title while older brother, Marat, was working his way back up the rankings by qualifying for the ATP Masters Series tournament in Hamburg.  Safin and Safina, two very talented and
charismatic tennis pros, continue the tradition of successful tennis families.  Dinara has a couple Grand Slam titles to win to match her brother Marat’s success, but perhaps her strong play will serve as further inspiration for Marat as he works to find his form again.  One hopes that Safin can have at least one more strong Grand Slam run while Dinara can capitalize on her Berlin success to make a major impression at the upcoming French Open and Wimbledon.
