Tennis Players' Bandanas - Function and Fashion

Bandana

For many years, a lot of the top tennis pros, especially the men, e.g. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, David Nalbandian, have been wearing bandanas on the tennis court.  Argentine tennis superstar, Gabriela Sabatini, wore one, but few women have worn them since then although occasionally Svetlana Kuznetsova and Serena Williams wear them as well.  Many tennis pros wear baseball caps while they compete to both keep their

hair in place, as well as shield their face from the sun.  However, the bandana could really become a fashion accessory for tennis players.  For example, recently Rafael Nadal has taken to playing in a stunning striped bandana rather than the solid color bandanas worn by most players.  Players could also alter the way the bandanas are worn, (e.g. a thin wrapped style around the head; a bandana wrapped around the head and tied in the back of the head; a bandana worn vertically and held behind the ears).  Other accessories such as socks and wristbands could also be designed as more of a fashion accessory rather than having all players wear the same style and colors.  It’s not a case of being different in order to “stand out”, but simply an opportunity for tennis pros to be making more of a positive fashion statement.
