Last American Standing at the French Open

Robby Ginepri, the somewhat unlikely last American alive at the 2008 French Open, has had quite the ride the past six months. Ginepri, who was ranked 171 in January, is the first American man to reach the last 16 at Roland Garros since Andre Agassi in 2003. Ginepri, who has been working with Jose Higueras, Roger Federer's new coach, feels he has learned a lot from Higueras in terms of
how to construct points, and place his serves on clay courts. Ginepri's success on the tennis court the past few months provides a valuable lesson into how quickly things can turn around with hard work and a little luck along the way. For Ginepri, who has now reached at least the round of 16 in all four Grand Slams, i.e. Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and the U.S. Open, his excellent performance at Roland Garros coupled with his strong play at other tournaments the past couple months has now not only caused his ranking to shoot upwards, but also guaranteed Ginepri a spot on the American Olympic tennis team for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Not too shabby a comeback!
