Middle Sunday At Wimbledon - The Turning Point...

Wimbledon grass

The middle Sunday at Wimbledon is the day to pause and reflect on the first week of The Championships.  At the same time, Wimbledon is the mid point of the tennis year in a way because most players take their only real break during the season after the French Open and Wimbledon swing.  The first week of Wimbledon was rather eventful with a flurry of upsets, i.e. Novak Djokovic, Andy Roddick, Ana Ivanovic and Maria Sharapova all went down early.  The first half of the tennis season was also full of a few surprises as

Djokovic won his first Grand Slam at the Australian Open and Sharapova won her third Slam title down under after struggling throughout 2007.  As spring arrived, Justine Henin shocked the tennis world with her sudden retirement and Ana Ivanovic won the French Open and became Number One.  Roger Federer also struggled through the first half of the season although he did reach the French Open finals again and is now in the second week of Wimbledon.  So what is there to look forward to in the second week of Wimbledon?  For the men, there are many players poised for a breakthrough tournament.  It will be a week with something unexpected happening even if Roger Federer wins his sixth straight Wimbledon title.  On the women’s side, the Number One ranking is again at stake and there is a serious possibility that Serena Williams could face her sister, Venus Williams, in a Grand Slam final for the first time since they played five years ago in the Wimbledon finals (won by Serena)…
