Murray Mounts the (Mental) Mountain

Andy Murray’s comeback five set victory at Wimbledon over Frenchman, Richard Gasquet, was a huge mental victory. Gasquet was playing sparkling tennis for the first two sets and served for the match at 5-4 in the third set when everything seemed to change. Murray, who has had a history of hanging his head when he’s losing and struggling with aspects of his game, hung tough in this match and kept fighting. A couple shots in the
latter stages of the third set probably turned the momentum of the match and deflated Gasquet’s spirits and play while Murray seemed to rise up the mountain and bring the packed Centre Court crowd with him. Murray faces a huge challenge in his next match against Rafael Nadal. Nonetheless, if he can maintain the positive mental outlook and fighting attitude when things look grim in future matches, he will undoubtedly reach other Grand Slam quarters and possibly beyond. Now Richard Gasquet needs to search out the inner strength to match his incredible tennis talent if he wants to fulfill his potential.
