Nike Fashion Statement at Wimbledon
Nike has outfitted several of its superstars in snazzy outfits for Wimbledon 2008, i.e. Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova. Federer, continuing his retro stylish Wimbledon outfits of the past couple years wore an off-white knit cardigan for his match, as well as a belt holding up his white tennis shorts. Meanwhile, Serena Williams wore a short white stretchy, trench coat on top of her simple white tennis dress with a double ruffled hem. Maria Sharapova broke new ground in her Grand Slam attire by wearing
shorts for the first time. Sharapova’s tailored shorts were complemented by a sleeveless, white tuxedo-style halter top with sheer panels. Sharapova also wore a short white jacket to complete her tuxedo look. Other major tennis brands such as Adidas, Reebok, Fila, etc. have chosen a more low-key basic white style for this year’s Championships. It’s excellent that Nike is making an effort to create a little fashion buzz at Wimbledon as the sports world focuses on tennis for the next couple weeks.
