James Blake Establishes Cancer Research Fund

James Blake has chosen to establish a cancer research fund at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in honor of his late father, Thomas Blake, Sr. who died of cancer in 2004. The Thomas Blake Sr. Memorial Research Fund invests seed money in leading-edge science in order to speed up the most promising work and shorten the time it takes to turn laboratory discoveries into better treatments for patients. The goal is to raise $1 million in the next year and $500,000 has been raised to date. Special fundraising
initiatives include a tennis exhibition featuring James Blake, Andy Roddick and the Bryan brothers on September 12th in Richmond. In addition, all proceeds from the sales of J-block merchandise will support the new fund (Nike provides the merchandise and 100% of the gross proceeds are donated to charity). Tennis fans can also make a donation to the Blake Fund directly through Memorial Sloan Kettering. One hundred percent of all monies raised go directly to fund cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Blake has achieved a lot on the tennis court the past few years and now James has used his prominence to support a worthwhile cause, i.e. cancer research, which touches millions of tennis fans around the world. Well done!
