Nadal Surrounded by Family
In what has become a tradition at Wimbledon for many players and also at other Grand Slams, Rafael Nadal climbed up into the stands to hug his family after clinching the 2008 Wimbledon title over Roger Federer. Similar to many pro tennis players, Rafael Nadal is surrounded by a close-knit family. His uncle Toni is, and has been, his only coach. His parents and sister can be seen in the stands watching his matches at Wimbledon and the
French Open. At home in Manacor, Majorca, Spain, Rafa lives in the same apartment building as his parents, sister and grandparents who live on different floors. There are other pros who have been coached by members of their family, e.g. Andy Roddick (brother), Jimmy Connors (mom), Serena and Venus Williams (mom and dad), Monica Seles (dad), etc. Nonetheless, in the increasingly competitive world of professional tennis, Rafael Nadal is an example of a player who continues to remain “close to home”…
