Williams Takes All
Venus Williams plays sister Serena Williams on Saturday for the 2008 Wimbledon singles title. Regardless of whether Venus or Serena wins the match, the Williams family wins. The fact that Serena and Venus are playing for the seventh time in a Grand Slam final is an incredible achievement. By the way, Serena has won five of their six matches in Grand Slam singles finals and leads the overall rivalry 8-7 having won their last
meeting this past March at a Sony Ericsson WTA Tour tournament in Bangalore, India. Apparently, Richard Williams, their father, prefers to fly home than sit through the final in person. On the other hand, their mother, Oracene Price, plans to watch the finals live at Centre Court along with two of their sisters. There may never be another sibling pair that shares the incredible success that Serena and Venus have had on the tennis court and yet they still seem to be close. Kudos to their parents for managing that tricky situation so well over the years. Clearly, Serena and Venus both want to win the title very badly. Ultimately, a Williams sister will win the title and that’s exciting for both the Williams family, as well as the sport of tennis.
