Dangerous Floaters at the 2008 U.S. Open

Arthur Ashe Stadium US Open

There are several unseeded tennis pros who could cause a big splash at the 2008 U.S. Open by upsetting a seeded player or having a deep run through the draw.  Here are the players we believe might attract some attention with their strong play at the 2008 U.S. Open…

Men:
•    Fabrice Santoro - never count out the “magician” at his final U.S. Open
•    Simone Bolelli - talented Italian whose hard-court game could surprise
•    Mardy Fish - beat Federer earlier in the year and is due for a strong U.S. Open
•    Tommy Haas - former number two ranked player who reached quarters in 2007
•    Ernests Gulbis -  hard-serving talent who reached French Open quarters
•    Carlos Moya - former Number One who is still a threat on all surfaces at age 31
•    Marat Safin - can the former U.S. Open winner continue his Wimbledon form?
•    Robby Ginepri - reached the U.S. Open semis in 2005
•    Sam Querrey - strong serve and forehand should thrill American crowds
•    Donald Young - might be ready to finally make a run as a pro

Women:
•    Aleksandra Wozniak - won the Bank of the West tournament at Stanford in July
•    Kateryna Bondarenko - won the Oz Open doubles and first singles title in ‘08
•    Jie Zheng - seems to be continuing her fine form from Wimbledon
•    Li Na - upset Venus Williams at Beijing Olympics and plays well on hard courts
•    Samantha Stosur - serve and volleying into form again after long illness
•    Lucie Safarova - won a U.S. Open warm-up event last week at Forrest Hills
