• Ernests Gulbis - hard-serving talent who reached French Open quarters
• Carlos Moya - former Number One who is still a threat on all surfaces at age 31
• Marat Safin - can the former U.S. Open winner continue his Wimbledon form?
• Robby Ginepri - reached the U.S. Open semis in 2005
• Sam Querrey - strong serve and forehand should thrill American crowds
• Donald Young - might be ready to finally make a run as a pro
Women:
• Aleksandra Wozniak - won the Bank of the West tournament at Stanford in July
• Kateryna Bondarenko - won the Oz Open doubles and first singles title in ‘08
• Jie Zheng - seems to be continuing her fine form from Wimbledon
• Li Na - upset Venus Williams at Beijing Olympics and plays well on hard courts
• Samantha Stosur - serve and volleying into form again after long illness
• Lucie Safarova - won a U.S. Open warm-up event last week at Forrest Hills
