2008 U.S. Open Tennis Trophy Count

We salute the champions of the 2008 U.S. Open... Serena Williams returned to the Number One ranking in style by winning an exciting match against Jelena Jankovic to capture the U.S. Open Women’s title – it was Serena’s third U.S. Open title and ninth Grand Slam title. Roger Federer silenced his doubters for now with his fifth straight U.S. Open Men's Singles title and thirteenth singles Grand Slam – one shy of Pete Sampras’ record of 14 Slams. In doubles, Cara Black of Zimbabwe pulled off the “doubles double” by winning the Women’s Doubles title with Liezel Huber (originally from South Africa and now an American citizen), as well as the Mixed Doubles title with first-time Grand Slam partner, Leander Paes of India, defeating Liezel Huber and Jamie Murray in the final. Bob and Mike Bryan followed up their Bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics by winning their second U.S. Open Men's Doubles title and sixth Grand Slam doubles title. Bulgarian teen, Grigor Dimitrov, who trains in Spain, followed up his victory at Junior Wimbledon with the U.S. Open Boys’ title. Californian, Coco Vandeweghe, showcased her talent by winning the U.S. Open Junior Girls’ title – the first time an American girl has captured the U.S. Open Junior title in thirteen years.
