Analysis of the 2008 U.S. Open Men's Singles Final
Roger Federer will take on Scotsman, Andy Murray, in the delayed 2008 U.S. Open Men’s Singles Final on Monday afternoon at 5 pm. For Federer, the match is a chance to win his fifth straight U.S. Open title (the first to do that since Bill Tilden in the 1920s) and “redeem” his season by winning his first Slam title in 2008. Andy Murray won the 2004 U.S. Open Junior Boys’ title. If Andy wins the 2008 U.S. Open Men’s title, Murray will become the first Brit to win a Grand Slam title since Fred Perry won the U.S. Open in 1936. Ironically, Murray wears the Fred Perry clothing line. Murray has also called the U.S. Open his favorite Grand Slam. We present our analysis of the players below:
Roger Federer Andy Murray
Form Inconsistent, but improving Impressive with lapses
Fitness Seems strong, but not tested Fitness is key to recent success
Experience Confidence of 4 straight titles First Grand Slam final
Pressure Hasn’t won Slam this year Nothing to lose
Intangible Crowd will be in his corner 2-1 edge over Federer
