U.S. Open Tennis Fashion Show

2008 US Open tennis fashions

There have not yet been any major fashion statements at the 2008 U.S. Open similar to Maria Sharapova’s “little black dress” or Roger Federer’s black tuxedo outfit from 2007, but nonetheless there have been some fashion trends at the 2008 U.S. Open.  Color has been evident in many designs either through the use of bright colors or darker, more muted colors.  Nike outfitted Serena Williams in a stylish red dress and Roger Federer an Rafael Nadal in red and orange shirts and Reebok provided Jelena Jankovic with

a pale yellow dress.  Meanwhile, adidas had some players such as Fernando Gonzalez wearing bright yellow and black shirts while others wore a neon light green top without the typical 3 adidas stripes on the sleeve or back.  David Nalbandian’s bright yellow Yonex shirts continued to light up the U.S. Open grounds.  On the other side of the color spectrum, Amelie Mauresmo had on a gray ensemble and Lacoste players such as Alize Cornet wore silver blue skirts and Andy Roddick wore black and white outfits.  For night matches, James Blake wore a black and gray Nike outfit while Roger Federer wore matching khaki gray shirt and shorts.  Venus Williams’ wore white and black dresses with bright colored trim from her “Eleven” collection.  There are no outfits at the 2008 which tennis fans will remember for years to come, but it will be interesting to see if the subdued hues produced by several brands, i.e. gray, khaki, remain in future designs.
