What's New at the 2008 U.S. Open

US Open recycles

There are many aspects of the U.S. Open which distinguish the tennis tournament from the other Grand Slams, i.e. Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon.  Each year, the U.S. Open seeks to enhance the fan experience and add new programming.  For example, 2008 marks the 40th anniversary of the first U.S. “Open” tennis tournament at which pros competed alongside amateurs.  There is a special YouTube channel this

year, as well as enhancements to the official website.  There is also a new “pop-up” store in Soho selling official U.S. Open merchandise.  This year, 20 young children, selected at an open casting call in June in New York, will each sing the nightly national anthem.  In addition, there are several green initiatives at the 2008 designed to minimize the impact of the tennis tournament on the environment.
