Venus Williams Marching Ahead... Again!

In 2008, Venus Williams is having one of the most successful years of her career and on a path to her best year-end finish since 2002. Venus won her fifth Wimbledon singles title in July and reached the quarters at the Australian Open and U.S. Open. Venus’s sister, Serena Williams, the 2008 U.S. Open Champion is also having a strong year. One would think that each sister’s success both inspires and challenges the other sister. With
only a couple weeks left in the season, Venus is primed to reach the year-end Sony Ericsson Championships in Doha. What’s also made this year different, is that Venus has managed to play the majority of the year. At the age of 28, Venus seems to be healthy (again) and still very excited to compete. In an era in women’s pro tennis when Kim Clijsters retired in her early 20s and Justine Henin in her mid 20s, it’s refreshing to see that Venus still plans to play until the next Olympics in 2012 in London at Wimbledon! Now the immediate challenge is to play in, and try to win, the Sony Ericsson Championships and position herself with a good ranking to help her seeding at the 2009 Australian Open.
