Borg Versus McEnroe - The Rivalry Continues

Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe

Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe have been playing exhibition matches across Asia this week, i.e. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Macao and Bangkok, Thailand (on Saturday).  It’s wonderful to see these two tennis legends compete again as “seniors.”  Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have a compelling rivalry in the men’s game today.  Nonetheless, watching Borg and McEnroe compete reminds tennis fans of what made theirs such a fascinating

rivalry almost thirty years ago and still today!  It is the left-hander, McEnroe, against the righty, Borg.  It is the serve and volleyer, McEnroe, against the consistent baseline shots and deceptive passing shots of Borg.  Finally, there is the stoic Borg contrasted by the emotional and fiery McEnroe.  Each player’s strengths and personality shines more because of the comparison to the other player.  Even after all these years, it is still exciting tennis and a real thrill to watch Borg play McEnroe.  If the Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe travelling tennis tour touches down in your city for a seniors tournament or an exhibition match, snap up a ticket and watch a couple of talented tennis players show off their stuff!  Borg’s trademark headband no longer holds his graying locks in place and McEnroe’s graying curly hair is receding, but the tennis is still captivating!
