Tennis United on World AIDS Day...

AIDS Ribbon

On December 1, 1993, there were tennis round robins organized by tennis players and clubs in 25 countries all over the world.  Theses tennis round robins were an example of members of the global tennis community coming together to heighten awareness about the AIDS epidemic and raise money for research and educational programs.  The funds raised supported the efforts of the Arthur Ashe Foundation for the Defeat of AIDS, which was established by tennis legend, Arthur Ashe who died of AIDS.  Fifteen years later,

there has been much progress in the worldwide fight against AIDS, but there is still no cure and no vaccine.  As a truly global sport, tennis is well-positioned to unite in support of worldwide causes.  There are many worthy global causes and perhaps the tennis world will come together again in a united effort to heighten awareness, effect change and raise money.  Cancer, the environment, education, poverty, hunger… what should be next?
