2009 Australian Open Fashion Revue

Australian Open tennis fashions

As the tennis new year is in full swing at the 2009 Australian Open, our fashion critics have a chance to check out the latest tennis attire on all the top players.  Bright colors are definitely in style this year despite the record heat wave hitting Melbourne.  Darker, brighter colors usually attract the heat more, but it seems fashion comes first… Nike players Roger Federer and Serena Williams are wearing rich, royal blue colors.  Meanwhile, Nike has oufitted Rafael Nadal with a new look featuring shirts with sleeves

and shorter shorts!  Adidas players Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Dinara Safina are wearing bright yellow tops making it easy to lose the tennis ball!  Venus Williams' yellow dress was the latest from her EleVen collection.  2008 French Open champion, Ana Ivanovic, wore a stylish adidas purple dress.  2008 Australian Open champion, Novak Djokovic, was decked out in a new adidas line featuring olive green shorts and white tops.  Russian Olympic Gold Medalist, Elena Dementieva, is wearing bright red Yonex dresses.  Serbian, Jelena Jankovic, wore a bright green dress by Anta.  Fila has recently signed American, James Blake, who is now wearing a more traditional collared shirt and plans to help with the design of his new outfits for the 2009 U.S. Open.  Russian, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Australian, Jelena Dokic, wore white Fila outfits with an attractive green pattern design across the top of the shirts.  Lacoste, which outfitted the lines people and chair umpires at the 2009 Australian Open in bright orange tops, provided American, Andy Roddick, with a rather dull white ensemble with some black trim.  All in all, there were not any memorable outfits at this year’s Australian Open, but the bright colors did suit the “Happy Slam”!
