Murray Takes All
Andy Murray cleaned up in a “winner take all” tennis exhibition in Abu Dhabi to start off the New Year. Not only did Murray win $250,000… but he also beat Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in back to back matches. Many predict that Murray could be a future Number One and that he is ready to break through and win a Grand Slam title in 2009. Therefore, despite the fact that these were exhibition matches, it is meaningful to
many that Murray beat the Number One and Number Two players to kick start his year. For Federer and Nadal, the losses probably mattered a lot less than the wins did for Murray. In fact, if they meet again in a couple weeks at the Australian Open, Federer and Nadal will definitely be working extra hard not to lose twice in a row to Murray. Nonetheless, matches are matches whether they are in exhibitions or in a live tournament. Players learn a little something about the other player, his tendencies, how certain strategies work, etc. So let the “real” games begin… down under!
