2009 Australian Open Tennis Trophy Count

We salute the champions of the 2009 Australian Open… Serena Williams returned to the Number One ranking in style by winning her fourth Australian Open title and tenth Grand Slam singles crown. Rafael Nadal confirmed his place as the Number One player, on all surfaces (he’s won four times at Roland Garros and once at Wimbledon), by winning his first Australian Open title on the hard courts in Melbourne over Roger Federer in five thrilling sets. Nadal is the first Spaniard to win the Australian Open title. In doubles, Serena teamed with sister Venus to win the Women’s Doubles title again. On the men’s side, Bob and Mike Bryan returned to the Number One ranking by winning the Men’s Doubles title. Sania Mirza teamed with Indian compatriot and doubles champion, Mahesh Bhupathi, to win the Mixed Doubles title for her first Grand Slam title. Number One seed, Yuki Bhambri from India, claimed the Australian Open Junior Boys’ title and Russian teen, Ksenia Pervak, won the Australian Open Junior Girls’ title.
