Ivanovic Brings on Kardon as Coach
Ana Ivanovic has chosen Craig Kardon as her new coach starting on a trial basis at the upcoming Sony Ericsson WTA Tour tournament in Dubai. Kardon previously coached Martina Navratilova, Lindsay Davenport, Mary Pierce, Jennifer Capriati and Xavier Malisse. For Ivanovic, who worked for the past couple years with Sven Groeneveld through her sponsorship relationship with adidas, it’s great that she’s found a strong, experienced
coach. Ivanovic has already improved her game a lot in the past few years. Since winning the French Open and becoming Number One briefly last spring, Ivanovic has struggled at times with her form. Recently, Ivanovic’s serve has looked shaky, but mostly she seems to have lost her confidence at times. Ana can clearly improve parts of her game such as her net play and match strategy, but what she needs most right now is someone who can instill confidence. The pro-coach relationship is as much about the technical advice, as well as the way the coach and player connect on a personal level. Given his past experience with top-ranked female pros and friendly personality, Kardon seems like a strong choice.
