Tennis is Popular in Australia

The 2009 Australian Open tennis tournament captured the attention of tennis fans “down under” and around the world. It’s been a few years since Aussie, Lleyton Hewitt, won a Grand Slam title and held the Number One ranking and there are currently no Australian men ranked in the top 100 and no women in the top 40. Nonetheless, according to the tenth winter edition of the Sweeney Sports Report, tennis retains its position as the sport in
which most Australians are interested. Almost sixty percent of Australians are interested in tennis, placing the sport ahead of swimming which is the second most popular sport in Australia. The Report, which is recognized as Australia’s most comprehensive and authoritative sports and sponsorship survey, calculates "interest" by combining data about the proportions of adult Australians in capital cities who participate in, attend, watch television programs, listen to radio broadcasts, read print media reports and use the Internet for information about each sport. The challenge for Tennis Australia is to capitalize on this interest in tennis and the publicity surrounding the annual Australian Open tennis tournament to develop future Grand Slam champions to join the legions of past Aussie greats such as Rod Laver, Margaret Court, Evonne Goolagong, Patrick Rafter, etc.

Heya, I just thought i'd say that i think tennis REALLY popular mainly because it is a really good paying game and also very fun. Also a lot of superstars, (not naming anyone) are in it mainly for the modeling of the sponsors fashions. fewer and fewer people are in it because of the game. which is sad seeing that it is getting more and more popular as time goes on. Soon enough everyone will be playing it even though they are really bad at it just because they want their name known. I love the sport as you may notice. And i think that everyone should take an example from Roger Feddera, he is the BEST player and does for all the right reasons
