Federer and Roddick Both Wed

There are now three men in the top ten of the ATP Tour World rankings who are married. Roger Federer and Andy Roddick both “tied the knot” in April (the other married top tenner is Nikolay Davydenko). Roger Federer married longtime girlfriend and former Tour player, Mirka Vavrinec, in his hometown of Basel, Switzerland, in front of a small group of family
and friends. Federer announced the wedding after the fact on his website and subsequently photos of the happy couple appeared in a European print magazine. According to PEOPLE magazine, Roddick married Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model, Brooklyn Decker, at his Austin, Texas home a week ago. In fact, apparently several former and current tennis stars attended the Roddick-Decker wedding in Austin, Texas, i.e. Billie Jean King, Roddick's Davis Cup teammates James Blake and Mardy Fish, U.S. Davis Cup captain Patrick McEnroe, Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi. According to PEOPLE, for the ceremony, bridesmaids wore strapless, chocolate-colored gowns and the wedding was decorated with bright, tropical flowers. Decker’s gown was designed by Vera Wang. Roddick's longtime friend, Sir Elton John, apparently flew in from a concert in Las Vegas to perform at the wedding. The ceremony was followed by dinner at Roddick's local country club. Although Roddick has not mentioned the wedding on his own website, he did say several months ago that they would honeymoon in Costa Rica. For Federer, who has dated Mirka since they met at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, the “honeymoon” consisted of a tournament in Monte Carlo where Federer was upset by his Swiss countryman and Olympic Gold Medal winning doubles partner, Stan Wawrinka. As the year progresses, it will be interesting to see if “being married” has any impact on Roddick’s or Federer’s tennis results in the coming months. Federer is also facing the life-changing experience of becoming a father for the first time.
