2009 French Open: What's At Stake for the Top Men?

The results of the second Grand Slam tennis tournament of the year at the 2009 French Open matter in different ways for each of the top eight men. So what’s at stake for each of the players?
Rafael Nadal – He’s going for five in a row at Roland Garros where he’s never lost…
Roger Federer – A chance to win his first title at Roland Garros, tie Pete Sampras’s record of 14 Grand Slam titles and confirm that he’s in the chase for Number One in 2009… not much pressure!
Andy Murray – He’s more of a dark horse favorite for the 2009 French Open crown than he was “Down Under,” but he’s still a strong contender for the title… which would be his first Grand Slam
Novak Djokovic – Although he’s slipped to four in the rankings, he’s a clear favorite to win his second Grand Slam title given his strong form during the clay court season…
Juan Martin del Potro – He needs to beat the “big boys” in a major tournament to break through and fulfill his potential… will it be in Paris this year?
Andy Roddick – He’s only played one tournament since getting married in April and winning a Grand Slam title on clay would be a shocker, (it would be his second Grand Slam crown since he won the 2003 U.S. Open), but not impossible…
Gilles Simon – He’s struggled in 2009 and will feel the weight of French expectations… winning the title would be a monumental triumph for him and for French tennis…
Fernando Verdasco – He’s having a “career year,” but can he truly contend for a Grand Slam title?
