Rafael Nadal: Pretty in Pink!
Last (and this) year several top women including Serena Williams and Ana Ivanovic wore bright pink and red tennis outfits. However, Rafael Nadal is the player making the major fashion statements in 2009, at least on the men’s side of the tennis fashion court! Earlier in the year, Nadal switched to collared tennis shirts and abandoned his “pirate” shorts for slightly more traditionally-tailored and shorter long shorts. A couple decades ago, a player
by the name of Andre Agassi shook up the tennis fashion world with denim tennis shorts and neon colored accents on his shirts and bicycle shorts. It’s all about the “fashion maturation” of Nadal as he establishes himself at the top of the men’s rankings. Not every guy could get away with the bright pink shirt with yellow accents complimented by navy shorts. However, Nadal looks stylish at the 2009 French Open and one imagines a pink shirt on a guy would go over better in Paris than in many other cities, e.g. New York at the U.S. Open!
