Serena Williams Believes She is Number One

Serena Williams has captured ten Grand Slam titles at the French Open, Wimbledon, U.S. Open and most recently the 2009 Australian Open. It is Serena’s belief in herself that has helped her win so many of those titles. Serena recently made it clear that despite the fact that the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour rankings list Dinara Safina as the Number One ranked player, Serena still considers herself the best player. One can debate the computer
ranking system and whether the “best player” should be determined based on record and results or actual “tennis talent.” Regardless, for someone such as Serena, she can move beyond bad losses and low rankings because when Serena walks on the court she believes she’s the best. That self-belief doesn’t always translate into terrific tennis or even “confidence” on any given day. However, it does help Serena will herself to victory at times and is a key part of her fighting spirit which has helped her win many matches when her tennis form was sub-par. Now can Serena prove with her tennis on the court this spring and summer at the French Open, Wimbledon and U.S. Open that she is THE Number One.
