French Open Fashion Revue - 2009

French Open fashions

The French have a reputation for high style so it is no wonder that the talk turns to tennis fashions during the French Open.  At Roland Garros in 2009, the bright colors seem to be shining – pink, yellow and shades of blue dominate.  Then again, French brand and French Open sponsor, Lacoste may be outfitting the linespeople in different colors of their trademark polos, but they have outfitted tennis stars such as Andy Roddick, Dominika

Cibulkova and Samantha Stosur in black and white!  Andy Murray the lone player in Fred Perry also wore black.  Meanwhile, although Nike provided Maria Sharapova with a stunning dress in shades of blue, Serena Williams was rather “Mod” in her orange and black panel dress.  Roger Federer was in shades of blue in his more classic styled shirt and shorts while Rafael Nadal led the bright color splash with his pink shirt and dark navy shorts.  At the same time, fast-rising Victoria Azarenka was wearing royal blue and Serena sported a hot pink outfit for doubles.  Adidas players, Novak Djokovic, Ana Ivanovic and Dinara Safina also wore shades of royal blue while Chilean Fernando Gonzalez sported a bright yellow shirt over his black shorts.  Argentine, Juan Martin del Potro and Frenchman, Gael Monfils also wore Nike ensembles in dark shades of blue with yellow accents.  Reebok which does not outfit many top players at the moment offered a rich royal blue outfit for Amelie Mauresmo.  Fila seems in sync with the tennis colors of the season by decking out Svetlana Kuznetsova in a pink skirt and James Blake in a royal blue shirt.  Venus Williams' EleVen dress was white with a blue and green pattern.  So where’s the green in the other brands?!  It’s time for a return to “tennis court green” in more tennis outfits!
