Serena Williams - Model of Consistency

Serena Williams

With her first round win at Wimbledon today, Serena Williams is 39-0 in Grand Slam singles first round matches… pretty impressive!  In fact, Serena’s worst Grand Slam singles result was way back in 1998 when she lost in the second round of the Australian Open.  For a player who has lost in the first round of non-Slams to a couple relatively unknown players over the years, Serena’s first round Slam record highlights how well she focuses at Grand Slams.  What makes this accomplishment even more impressive is that the first rounds are usually the toughest on top seeded players who have all the pressure without having had a chance yet to work their way into the tournament.
