The Championships, Wimbledon 2009 Trophy Count

We salute the champions of The Championships, Wimbledon 2009… Serena Williams captured the Ladies’ Singles title, her third at Wimbledon and eleventh Grand Slam title. Gentlemen’s Singles winner, Roger Federer, joined Rafael Nadal and Bjorn Borg in winning the French Open and Wimbledon back to back while also winning his fifteenth Grand Slam title breaking Pete Sampras’ record. In doubles, Serena teamed with sister Venus to win their fourth Ladies’ Doubles title at Wimbledon and ninth Grand Slam doubles title together. On the men’s side, defending champions, Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic, retained their Wimbledon crown defeating the Bryan brothers for the sixth time in nine matches. Mark Knowles of the Bahamas and Anna-Lena Groenefeld of Germany won the mixed doubles title – it was Groenefeld’s first Grand Slam title and Knowles’ first Wimbledon title to complement his other Grand Slam doubles titles. Fourth seeded, Noppawan Lertcheewakarn of Thailand, a “double double” ala Monica Seles, defeated the top seed and 2009 French Open Junior Girls’ Champion, Kristina Mladenovic of France, to win the Junior Girls’ title. Unseeded Andrey Kuznetsov of Russia won the Junior Boys’ title. Seven different countries are represented in the list of winners below...
