Top Ten Memories from The Championships, Wimbledon 2009

What will stay with us from The Championships, Wimbledon 2009 …
• So many players falling on the green grass courts during the first few rounds – slides more scary than in the past…
• Bright (hot) sunshine… for the fortnight
• The “veterans” playing tough into the later rounds, i.e. Tommy Haas, Lleyton Hewitt, Juan Carlos Ferrero
• Andy Murray decked out in old-school Fred Perry tennis attire
• The new retractable Centre Court roof closing (one time) early in the second week… and matches, including Andy Murray’s, played indoors on Centre Court while play resumed outdoors on the other courts!
• Elena Dementieva’s stellar serving and fine form in narrowly losing to Serena Williams in the semis
• Andy Roddick’s impressive, and smart play in beating Lleyton Hewitt, Andy Murray and eventually losing a heartbreaker to Roger Federer in the Final
• Pete Sampras back at Wimbledon... watching the Gentlemen’s Final with Bjorn Borg, Rod Laver and Manolo Santana
• Roger Federer beating Andy Roddick 16-14 in the fifth set of the Gentlemen’s Final to win his fifteenth Grand Slam singles title
• The tag line on Serena Williams’ t-shirt during her post-Final press conference ”Are you looking at my titles”… and the tag line on Roger Federer’s t-shirt that he wore in his post-Final press conference: "There is no finish line. Far from done."
