Tennis Ball

As the 2009 U.S. Open approaches, we gaze into our fluorescent yellow tennis ball and offer our prognostications for the tournament ahead... The main draw will be released tomorrow, but we’ve gone out on a limb today!

o    Three wildcards will win their first round matches

o    Kim Clijsters will reach (at least) the round of 16

o    Rafael Nadal will progress further than Roger Federer

o    The average age of the quarterfinalists will be twenty-three

o    Venus Williams will do better than sister, Serena Williams

o    There will be more Americans, Australians and Frenchmen/women combined than Russians in the round of 16

o    There will be a first-time champion at the U.S. Open

o    The female finalist with the fewest double faults will win the title and the male finalist with the highest winning percentage on first serve points will win the title
