2009 U.S. Open Men's Singles Final - Analysis

On Monday afternoon, a day later than originally scheduled because of all the rain, Number One ranked, Roger Federer, will play sixth-seeded 6’ 6’’ Argentine, Juan Martin del Potro in the 2009 U.S. Open Men's Singles Final. Federer has beaten del Potro in their six previous matches, but during their encounter at the 2009 French Open del Potro did lead Federer
two sets to one in the semis before losing in five sets. Federer is playing for his sixth straight U.S. Open title, sixteenth Grand Slam title and first Grand Slam title as a father. Roger and wife, Mirka, a former Tour player had twin girls in late July. On the other side of the net, del Potro is hoping to become the first Argentine to win the U.S. Open since Gabriela Sabatini in 1990. Guillermo Vilas was the last Argentine male to win the U.S. Open back in 1977 when it was played on the green clay courts at the West Side Tennis Club in nearby Forrest Hills, New York.
