2009 U.S. Open Tennis "Fashion Show"

The tennis may be the primary focus at the 2009 U.S. Open, but since the tournament takes place in New York City, fashion is also on center stage. adidas seems to be making the biggest fashion statements at this year’s U.S. Open from the shirts to the shoes! Caroline Wozniacki has played well during her debut wearing the Stella McCartney adidas line. The
legendary adidas three stripes are visible on many players' shirts, but the shirts also feature abstract designs across the front and backs of several of the styles. At the same time, adidas had Americans, Sam Querrey and Melanie Oudin, wearing brightly-colored customized tennis sneakers with quotes on them, i.e. “Believe” on Oudin’s sneakers. Fila players, Kim Clijsters and Svetlana Kuznetsova, have been decked out in red white and blue ensembles. Meanwhile, Nike Players, Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova, have had black outfits for their night sessions and for the day sessions red and lavender with geometric trim inspired by architect, Frank Gehry, respectively.
Colors vary from the red and black Nike outfits on Roger Federer and Juan Martin del Potro to Venus Williams' bright pink EleVen dresses to orange/yellow adidas and yellow Nike shirts worn by Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, respectively. On the women’s side, maroon/purple was featured in Ana Ivanovic’s adidas dress and Serena Williams’ Nike day dress was pink matching sister, Venus, and maroon for the evening.
The most memorable fashion statements had a meaningful focus. James Blake launched his new Fila line which is named after his late father, Thomas Reynolds Blake. At the same time, Jay-Z designed an Arthur Ashe t-shirt and a portion of the t-shirt sales benefit Arthur’s charitable organizations. They look cool too!
