Samantha Stosur Wins First (Singles) Title

It took six finals, but Australian, Samantha Stosur, finally won her first Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles title on Sunday over Francesca Schiavone 7-5, 6-1 at the HP Open in Osaka,
Japan. Stosur has won two Grand Slam doubles titles and been ranked Number One in the world in doubles, but it's taken a while for Stosur to collect her first singles title.
2009 has become Stosur's “career year” to date in singles after she reached the semifinals on the clay courts at the 2009 French Open on probably her worst surface given her strong serve. Stosur, currently ranked a career-high 13th in singles, is taking her game to new levels this year. As a result, "Sam" will face even higher expectations from the Australian media and public for her singles results at the 2010 Australian Open in January. In addition, Stosur will face the challenge of maintaining her doubles success while attempting to rise even higher in the singles rankings next year. Stosur possesses a strong game featuring a powerful forehand and a serve considered by many to be one of the very best in the women's game. Despite being listed at only 5 feet 7 ¾ inches, Stosur generates both power on her first serve and kick on her second serve. A strong serve and powerful forehand, have carried many other players quite high in the rankings. Will Stosur crack the top ten in singles in 2010?
