Djokovic's New Italian Tennis Duds...

It’s that time in the tennis season when players announce new endorsement deals for next season and there have been quite a few… Novak Djokovic will be leaving the adidas stripes in favor of the Italian brand, Sergio Tacchini. Ironically, Andy Murray, who has traded the who has traded the third ranking slot back and forth with Djokovic this year, will be sporting
the adidas stripes in 2010 and beyond. Murray recently announced that he had signed a five year deal with adidas reportedly worth 15 million British pounds. Andy Roddick, less of a fashion plate off the court than many other tennis players, announced that he will continue to wear the French label, Lacoste, for the next four years.
Sergio Tacchini, which is now privately-owned by a Chinese businessman, hopes to ride Djokovic’s shirttails back to tennis prominence. Tacchini was a well-known and stylish tennis brand for years, especially during the 1980s. Tennis such as John McEnroe, Pete Sampras and Argentine, Gabriela Sabatini wore Sergio Tacchini tennis attire for years. Tacchini will produce four Djokovic-inspired clothing lines each year. Djokovic’s ten-year deal with Tacchini provides both Novak and Tacchini with an opportunity to establish themselves in the minds of tennis fans worldwide while also reaping the financial rewards of what will hopefully be a successful partnership.
In off-court endorsement news, Roger Federer also announced that he had signed a long-term endorsement contract with the Swiss bank, Credit Suisse. The ten-year sponsorship deal will include a ”significant annual contribution" by Credit Suisse to Federer’s Foundation which helps disadvantaged children in Africa.
Fortunately for all of these tennis players, switching tennis clothing lines is a lot easier than changing tennis rackets… unless they are superstitious!
