are hidden in darkness similar to the audience at a theater. It’s quite unlike any other indoor tennis arena where one can always see the crowds… or lack thereof!
In London this week, they have sold more than 250,000 tickets for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals and so they are definitely not trying to hide the empty seats. Instead, they’ve created an environment where the entire focus is on the court and the players competing. It’s quite unique and fortunately the players can still see the ball as well against the dark background! Given the sparse crowds at some major ATP tournaments in Asia during the fall, as well as at the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Championships in Doha, it’s terrific to see packed stands (when the lights are up!), as well as the spotlight firmly on tennis’ biggest stars as the season draws to a close.
