Sam Querrey Signs With K-Swiss

Sam Querrey’s impressive 2009 tennis season ended prematurely in the late fall at a tournament in Asia after a freak accident in which he cut his right arm very seriously when a glass table he was sitting on collapsed. Fortunately, after emergency surgery on his arm
in Asia, Querrey is expected to recover fully in time for the 2010 season. When the tennis year kicks off down under in Australia in January, Sam will be wearing K-Swiss tennis duds and sneakers.
Querrey, currently ranked 25th, is the second-ranked American behind Andy Roddick and clearly Sam hopes to supplant Roddick sometime in the future. Querrey, who wore adidas for the past three years, joins fellow K-Swiss endorsees, Mardy Fish and Tommy Haas. According to Querrey’s agent, John Tobias, Nike, Lacoste and Li Ning were among the companies pursuing Querrey and adidas also had the option to match any offer, but declined. Querrey’s new deal with K-Swiss is reported to be worth seven figures. adidas never featured Querrey in an ad campaign which will apparently be part of Querrey’s deal with K-Swiss.
In other endorsement news, Andy Murray recently announced that he will be trading his Fred Perry clothes for the adidas stripes. Murray was a big fish in a smaller pond at Fred Perry while Querrey was a smaller fish in a big pond at adidas. Both players could reap significant financial and promotion benefits from their new endorsement deals, especially if they produce strong results on the court and in the rankings.
